Hatha Yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in the world. Hatha Yoga uses postures (asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination work mental focus to develop awareness, strength and flexibility, and relaxation. Through proper alignment and mindful actions of the body, Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner.
Vinyasa Flow, likened to a dynamic dance, is a practice where asana (postures) are connected through the breath for a transformative and balancing effect. Classes build heat, endurance, flexibility, and strength. The creative sequencing found in a vinyasa class is often built around surya namaskar (sun salutations) . Vinyasa as a form is always evolving and teachers weave together wisdom teachings, poetry and music that can inspire physical, energetic, mental, intuitive, and pure bliss states of consciousness. Previous yoga experience is necessary.
This class is a delicious mindful mix of holding poses for a bit longer with intelligent transitions in between and then a balance of yin poses to really ground you for the rest of your week. Breathing is the essence of slow flow and you will build a powerful practice and balance with a therapeutic stretch and yoga nidra or relaxation techniques that will allow you to fall deeper into your bliss layer. Really, the class could be called slow it down, bliss it out!! This is a great class to get extra work on refining your Sun Salutations in a slow and controlled way.
This class is likely to be our most challenging of the bunch. Beginning with Sun Salutations and a strong standing series, this class will incorporate more challenging postures such as creative standing balance, arm balancing and inversions. There will be modifications and variations offered for all poses so that the intensity and challenge is up to the individual. This class is usually Ashtanga based but with no predetermined sequence. Be prepared to have fun, sweat, tone and break through internally perceived physical and mental limitations.
Yin yoga is a deep, passive, meditative practice that removes blockages and congestion in our connective tissues (our ligaments, fascia, joints). Poses are held for several minutes to gently stretch, moisten and rehabilitate the connective tissues. In Yin yoga, we are also stimulating the meridian channels of the body, rivers of energy (chi) that run through these tissues. By nourishing these organ channels the chi is able to flow more fluidly. Strong flowing chi supports the physical organs in the body as well as harmonizing our emotional body, resulting in a more balanced state of being.
Restorative yoga is a gentle, calming, therapeutic kind of yoga that uses props to support the body as it eases into relaxation and balance. All levels welcome including students working with injury, or sensitivity.
